That is exactly what we planned to do before I opened this thread 
I have another suggestion using a custom button, First it will execute the custom login and as a next step it will trigger the preview event using code so it will avoid using two things(Custom button and Standard preview click).
Question is if there is a way to trigger the standard event EH_Preview using code ?
